Your artwork is exquisite. It is the first time ever that I see the human figure in a sort of nothing space like this. Treating them as if they are a still life, a fruit or an inanimate object. What is so great about your art, is that it captures a very familiar moment of a very ordinary pose in a world void of artifice. All the attention is focus on the subject. There is a calm in every scene, but also an underlying tension which is always present in good art. I have a great admiration for what you are doing. What you can explore in this kind of milieu is limitless. As George Tooker once said; "Painting is an attempt to come to terms with life , there are as many solutions as there are human beings". Your technique also deserve an A+,
Living in the centre of a busy city (London) it is wonderful to take people out of their everyday lives and place them in a calm space. It focuses the viewer on an individual that would normally be overlooked in their original surroundings.
I am not a big fan of posed portraiture and prefer to depict my figures as they would be in everyday life and not how they feel they should be, when observed or posing.
Paintings From The Street is a painting blog created to chronicle my journey as a painter. My name is Nigel Cox, I have travelled to the ends of the earth on the Transglobe Exhibition, lived in a few countries and have now settled in London, UK.
I paint in Oil on Linen and Panel. My paintings are predominantly of photo-realistic figures set in large empty spaces.
I would be delighted if you had the time to watch my blog, and have some fun with it. It would be great to hear your comments on my work and I will answer any questions you may have about me or my paintings.
Feel free to tell your friends about this blog if you think they will get some enjoyment from it
